Google Maps is nothing more than an algorithm that takes you on the shortest route from point A to point B (which works well when you need to get to a hotel or campsite, for example). But by doing so, you miss out on the most interesting and scenic routes. 

Our specially planned routes are designed for navigation systems that follow tracks. That’s why we recommend using the OsmAnd/Locus/DMD2 app (for GPX files) or Maps.me (for KML files), or navigation devices from TomTom, Garmin, or BMW Navigator. With our tracks, you can be sure you're riding truly scenic and interesting routes.

Which devices and apps are supported?

All GPX and KML files included with your Tour Book are compatible with:

• Navigation apps: OsmAnd, Scenic, OrganicMaps, Kurviger, Calimoto, Locus Map, etc.

Does my file import as a route or a track?

It depends on your device and how you import it:

• Track — a recorded line showing exactly where to ride, displayed as a line on the map. Most apps (OsmAnd, Locus Map, Maps.me) and Garmin devices import GPX files as tracks by default.
• Route — a set of waypoints that your device recalculates turn-by-turn using its own maps. Garmin devices can import GPX files as routes when you use the "Import Route" option; TomTom devices typically handle files as routes.

Our recommendation: Import as a track for the most faithful recreation of the planned road. This follows the exact roads we've selected, rather than letting the device choose alternative roads.

What happens if I miss a turn?

• Track mode: Your device shows where the track is on the map and guides you back to it, but it does not automatically recalculate a new path. Simply follow the track line displayed on screen.
• Route mode: Your device recalculates a new path to the next waypoint using its internal maps. The recalculated road may differ from the original planned road.

How do I import the file on Garmin?

1. Connect your Garmin device to your computer via USB.
2. Open the device as a folder (it appears like a USB drive).
3. Copy the .gpx file into the Garmin > GPX folder.
4. Safely eject and restart the device — the route or track appears automatically.

Alternatively, use Garmin Basecamp or Garmin Express to import and send files wirelessly to compatible devices.

How do I import the file on TomTom?

1. Connect your TomTom device via USB or use the TomTom MyDrive app.
2. In MyDrive, go to My Routes and click Import Route.
3. Select the .gpx file — it syncs to your device automatically.
4. On the device, find the route under My Routes and start navigation.

How do I import the file on Android?

1. Download the .gpx or .kml file to your phone.
2. Open your navigation app (OsmAnd, Locus Map, or Maps.me).
3. Use the app's Import or Open File option and select the file.
4. The track appears on the map — tap Start or Navigate to begin.

How do I import the file on iPhone / iPad (iOS)?

1. Download the .gpx or .kml file — it may open a prompt asking which app to use.
2. Choose your navigation app (OsmAnd or Maps.me are recommended).
3. The track is imported automatically and displayed on the map.
4. Tap Start or Follow Track to begin riding.

What is inside the GPX / KML file?

Each file contains the full day-by-day route as a track, including all intermediate points that define the exact road sequence. There are no embedded photos, audio, or written notes in the file — all written guidance and highlights are in the accompanying digital Tour Book (PDF).

Where can I find destination-specific guides?

Each product page includes a dedicated Tour Book for its destination — with route descriptions, highlights, accommodation tips, and fuel stop information. Browse our full collection of destinations in the store.
